Greensboro Farmers Curb Market Hosts Tomato Appreciation Day/BLT Cook Off on Saturday, August 9 from 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM

 

Greensboro, August 1, 2014 – On Saturday, August 9th, Greensboro Farmers Curb Market is hosting Tomato Appreciation Day in conjunction with a new event, Bacon Lettuce Tomato Sandwich Cook Off, out on the lawn by Lindsay St. as the last fundraiser of the summer. There will be a variety of tomatoes to taste including: Pink Girls, Carolina Gold, Valencia, Yellow Pear, Better Boy, Cherokee Purple, Sweet 100, Sun Gold, and Plum tomatoes. Tea Hugger will also be sampling a salt-cured, tea-infused pork belly provided by Massey Creek Farms. BLT tastings are crafted by chefs from Emma Key’s, GFCM Team, UNDERCURRENT, and the WORX restaurants, each bringing their own creative flair to the BLT in this cook off competition.

The BLT tasting is $5 for 4 samples. Patrons will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite sandwich.

The bacon is sourced from Neese’s Country Sausage. Tomatoes are provided by Byrley Gardens, Farlow Farm, Handance Farm, Mindenhill Farm Moore Farm, Nimby Gardens, Rudd Farm, and Bob Stewart. Lettuce is provided by Flora Ridge Farm.

Café al Grano and Tea Hugger will be out on the lawn with beverages for purchase. Self-proclaimed Baconteur John Jones of The Next Supper Underground Dining Collective will be available to answer all of your bacon questions.

There will be live music by the Buddy Rowe Band (blues/rock) from 8 AM – 9:45 AM, followed by The Aldermans from 9:45 AM – 11:00 AM. Picnic table seating is provided, and patrons are encouraged to bring seating as well.
