Greensboro, NC – Greensboro Farmers Market (GFM) will host a Community Stone Soup Fundraiser at 501 Yanceyville Street on Saturday, December 7, 2019. Local chefs will prepare soups using winter ingredients and inspired bythe fable, “Stone Soup.” The event begins at 9:00am and soups will be available for purchase to eat immediately or to take away for re-heating at home.
Stone Soup is an old folk story in which hungry strangers convince the people of a town to each share a small amount of their food in order to make a meal that everyone enjoys, and exists as a moral regarding the value of sharing. All proceeds will benefit GFM Fresh Food Access Programs to increase the buying power of those in need for nutritious foods from local farmers.
- Dani Black of Bigger Tables will prepare Winter Beans and Greens Soup (Vegan and Gluten-Free).
- Chris Scalici of Artistic Cuisine will prepare a Beer, Bacon & Cheese Soup with optional jalapenos.
An eight ounce cup of your choice of soup will be available for a donation of $5 while supplies last. Both soups will be available to pre-order at the Customer Information Hub during Market or online at TicketMe Triad (https://ticketmegreensboro.com/events/community-stone-soup-fundraiser-12-7-2019). Winter Beans and Greens Soup are also available to pre-order in 32 ounce containers for $15 (limited quantities available for $18 day of event). Customers may pick up pre-ordered soup starting at 9:30 am the day of the event.
Customers may enjoy live music during the event from Adam Doyle (9-11am) in Cook’s Corner Café in the Market.
Thanks to support and soup from Chef Chris Scalici of Artistic Cuisine and Chef Dani Black of Bigger Tables for making this fundraising event possible. GFM fundraising events are first come, first served and help to provide vital funds to Market operations and five food security programs at GFM, Inc., a 501-c3 non-profit organization.
