The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market is seeking a motivated individual with a passion for increasing Fresh Food Access in Greater Greensboro!
Food Security Program Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Attend all Wednesday and Saturday markets, year-round; the Food Security Program Coordinator is responsible to manage and staff the Food Security / Information Desk during Markets.
- Program Management of GFM Food Security Programs (SNAP, Double SNAP, Orange Card Token Program, Farmers’ Market Nutrition Programs (WIC & Seniors) & Farmer FoodShare); the Food Security Program Coordinator is responsible to conduct day of market site token distribution (Saturdays/Wednesdays), reconcile tokens, provide month end tallies to accountant, track checks, distribute checks (in person, by mail after two weeks), order supplies for programs (tokens, bags, etc.), organize paperwork forms for vendors to complete annually, post and distribute signage, develop and distribute meaningful press releases/weekly social media campaigns, and answer community questions via phone and email.
- Coordinate volunteers; the Food Security Program Coordinator is responsible to recruit, train, and manage Food Security Interns and volunteers.
- Attend community meetings and outreach events; the Food Security Program Coordinator is responsible to attend and represent GFM at: Greensboro Food Task Force meetings, the Guilford County Food Council meetings, Neighborhood meetings (1 per week), Greensboro Housing Authority meetings (quarterly), Downtown Residents Association meetings, Triad Local First meetings, and GFM pop-up market opportunities, among others.
- Organize and implement external fundraising activities in coordination with GFM Management; the Food Security Program Coordinator is responsible to coordinate, draft contracts, promote, and develop relationships for fundraising efforts. The Food Security Program Coordinator must be goal oriented to hold at least two fundraiser opportunities a month and assist with any GFM needs directed to raise funds i.e. developing a team for the Human Race with the Volunteer Center of Greensboro.
- Research, apply, and manage grants, donations, and designated funding for GFM Food Security Programs; the Food Security Program Coordinator is responsible to secure funding and grants to sustain GFM Food Security Programs and increase capacity.
Candidate Desired Skills & Experience Required
- Have 1+ years of experience working in the local food system and be able to demonstrate a passion for local food, farming, and a basic understanding of local food economies, as well as a passion for food outreach, health, and nutrition. Candidates must be knowledgeable in key issues (Food Security, Food Justice, Local Food Advocacy, Fresh Food Access, etc).
- Be experienced in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, record-keeping, filing, etc…
- Be experienced with Fundraising and grant writing.
- Have demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a team.
- Be experienced in customer service (problem-solving and conflict resolution) as well as have excellent communication skills, a positive and energetic attitude, and the ability to form positive professional relationships with a wide range of people including vendors, customers, and partner agencies.
- Have strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with teams of individuals and colleagues.
- Have strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Be confident working with diverse backgrounds (conversational level of Spanish language is a plus), etc.
- Be detail-oriented, dependable, and punctual.
- Have demonstrated proficiency with various social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.
Additional Requirements:
- Reliable transportation and a valid NC driver’s license
- The ability to lift 35 pounds
- The ability to stand/walk around the Market for 7 hours with minimal opportunities to sit down
- The ability to work in all weather conditions, year-round
This is a 15 month position beginning in September 2019 and completing on December 31, 2020 with potential opportunity for renewal. This position is based on 24 hours weekly with flexibility in hours required. Hourly pay is $14, dependent upon experience.
Weekly hours may differ monthly with:
- 10 -12 hours dedicated to Markets (Wednesdays and Saturdays) and including time to set-up and time to break-down
- 2 hours in field at community meetings & Monday evenings as needed
- Remainder of hours in office (Tuesday-Friday)
