Greensboro, NC –Greensboro Farmers Market, Inc. (GFM) is proud to announce a continued partnership with Guilford Community Care Network’s (GGCN) Orange Card Program to provide farm fresh food to residents. GFM and GGCN piloted the Orange Card program piloted from November 2016 through December 2017.  More than eighty families purchased fresh, local foods weekly during the pilot program. Through the generous support of fund holders of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, the non-profits have renewed this fresh food access program.

Orange Card beneficiaries will receive $10 in tokens weekly to shop the Market for fresh produce, milk, eggs, meat, poultry, and seafood.  “The Orange Card program strengthens the direct connection of those who are food insecure to accessible and affordable fresh and nourishing food,” notes GFM, Inc. Orange Card program participants are at or below 200% of the federal poverty income level.

GCCN is a non-profit program of community supporters that coordinates health care services for low-income or uninsured individuals in Guilford County.  “Our partnership with the Market presents the opportunity to address the social determinants of health as we look to impact food insecurity in our community,” adds Lisa Duck, Guilford Adult Health, Inc (pictured left).  Executive Director. Guilford Adult Health, Inc. supports Guilford Community Care Network and Guilford Dental Access Program.  The latter offers guidance and access to medical and oral health care for the underserved, uninsured and vulnerable individuals of our community. Orange Card Tokens may be used to purchase fresh foods beginning on Wednesday, May 23 2018.  Orange Card holders must present their GCCN Orange Card and ID to the Food Security Distribution table adjacent to the market manager’s station during Wednesday Market hours, 8 am – 1 pm. Each token is valued at one dollar and may be used in combination with cash or change.  Vendors may not give change back on Market Token purchases.  Orange Card Market Tokens may be used at participating vendors displaying Orange Card token signs and tokens maybe used at both Wednesday 8 am-1 pm and Saturday Markets 7am-12 noon.  All Orange Card Tokens must be used by December 29th.

Location and Hours of Operation
The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville Street, is located at the corner of Lindsey Street and Yanceyville Street across from the War Memorial Stadium and operates year round on Saturdays 7 am to 12 pm and seasonally on Wednesday 8 am- 1 pm (April 18 – December 19). The Market is a 9,000 square foot indoor facility with free admission, WiFi, and plenty of free parking as well as an ATM on site.
