Greensboro 101- Every year the Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch of the Greensboro Public Library celebrates Earth Day with free, fun and educational experiences for the whole family. Over 50 exhibitors, hay rides, live animals, face painting, and a bounce house will be on hand for an entire afternoon of family fun. This year’s celebration is Saturday, April 9, from 1 – 5 pm at the Kathleen Clay Library, 1420 Price Park Road.

The Ecobus, UNCG’s HERP Project, NC Herpetological Society, and Wildlife Care will have live animals for all ages to see. Learn about citizen science and birding through the Piedmont Bird Club, Audubon, and I-Naturalist exhibits. Discover ways to help wildlife habitats through the NC Native Plant Society.

Adults can learn about leaving a smaller footprint on the Earth with exhibits by Migration Tiny Homes, Bicycling in Greensboro (BIG), Triad Electric Vehicles Association, and NC Solar Now. Families can engage in hands-on energy experiments with NC A&T Center for Energy Research and Technology and Northern Middle School’s Energy WISE team.

The Guilford County Master Gardeners, Greensboro Council of Gardens, Brooks Global, and Greensboro Youth Council will offer gardening activities for all ages. For those wanting to be more local in food selection there will be demonstrations by the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market.

Children can make items from natural or recycled products with help from Greensboro Parks and Recreation, Our Children’s Community School, the Edible Schoolyard at the Greensboro Children’s Museum, and Piedmont Land Conservancy. Nature songs and music will be provided by Jefferson Elementary, Jesse Wharton Elementary, Mendenhall Middle, and the Greensboro Youth Chorus.

For anyone seeking outdoor adventure the US National Whitewater Center will also be on hand. View the sun through special telescopes provided by Greensboro Astronomy Club and YMCA Camp Weaver. For parents looking for science and STEM activities SciWorks, Triad Air Awareness, and the Peck Elementary Energy WISE Robotics Team will engage young scientists.
