The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market (501 Yanceyville Street) has begun an installation of a Meditation Spiral to be located at the entrance of the Market at Yanceyville. Project work days were schedule for Saturday, October 12th and Saturday October 19 8:00 to 12:00 noon. The spiral is approximately 20 feet in diameter with a gravel stone foot path and herbaceous perennials will be planted along the path.
The meditation spiral is part of a multi-phase educational and outdoor environment enhancement plan led by Lee Mortensen, Executive Director of GFM Inc. the 501c-3 non-profit which manages the Market. The project is designed to continue to activate the Market with engaging and contemplative spaces to be enjoyed by children and adults alike while honoring community supporters of the Market through these enhancements.
The Meditation Project Team: Justin Vettel is leading the Meditation project final design and installation on behalf of the Greensboro Permaculture Group. Coordination of volunteers and logistics from Guilford College student, Sierra Mendez-Neff and GFM’s sustainability intern for Fall 2019. Lee Mortensen, GFM’s Executive Director, serves as Project Manager securing funds, assets and community collaborations for this project and future Market Campus Enhancements. Dozens of community volunteers have contributed their times, talents and tools to make the project a reality. The Market management and project lead team is grateful for their participation.
This project has been made possible with the generous support of the Hillsdale Fund in memory of former board chair and long- time Market supporter Eric Calhoun and also through funds provided by the Davis Unit of the NC Herb Society.
A centerpiece of the spiral will showcase a persimmon tree positioned in a large culvert container. The tree will be planted in honor of Hiro Takase, a community member who photographed the Market for many years, who passed away last year. Other Market friends will be honored in future projects and installations.
