Meet Your Vendor: Massey Creek Farm

Garland

Farm life can seem rewarding and daunting for those who’ve never lived it.  Think about the days and nights.  Think about having 2500 chickens plus sheep and pigs as your daily responsibility.  Daunting comes to mind before rewarding.

Garland McCollum lives that rewarding and daunting life.  On the chicken watch, egg gathering begins about ten every day, when most of the hens have finished their part.  A second pass comes later in the day for late layers.

Next come washing those 2500 eggs, twice.  With help, Garland washes all those eggs then air dries them.  Now think of how quickly you have to size those 2500 eggs to get them to the Market, restaurants and grocery stores on time.  Now it’s time to feed the sheep and pigs….

In addition to livestock care and feeding, Massey Creek now serves as representative for Homeland Creamery milk and ice cream.  One more task to keep a busy farmer busy.

Farming is a big job and a job well done by Garland and his Massey Creek Farms teammates.  Drop by Aisle F, Tables 134,135,135a to hear more about how all those eggs get to Market, pick up some lamb and pork (possibly later this year) and consider bundling some milk and eggs.  Or, ask Garland to sharpen your best knives to become even better.  Garland says sharpening knives is relaxing after taking care of all that livestock.
