GREENSBORO-NC, Greensboro Farmers Curb Market (501 Yanceyville Street) will open the seasonal Mid-Week Market on Wednesday, April 17th, 2019. Patrons may shop for freshly picked produce, farm fresh eggs, local dairy products, pastured meats (beef, pork, chicken, lamb, and goat), seafood, authentic European styled breads and baked goods, local cut flowers, potted plants, and artisan goods now twice a week, every Saturday (7 am -12 pm) and every Wednesday (8 am-12 pm). April in season produce will include strawberries, radishes, lettuce mix, salad turnips, hothouse tomatoes, broccoli, spinach, sweet peas, kale, sweet potatoes, parsley, cucumbers, green garlic (weather permitting).

Lee Mortensen, Executive Director of Greensboro Farmers Market, Inc., (GFM) the 501-c3 non-profit that manages the Curb Market, notes that “with the re-opening of Mid-Week Market, patrons now have the opportunity to shop local twice a week for freshly picked produce and locally produced staples like bread, eggs, milk and meats. Additionally, customers appreciate the intimate atmosphere of Mid-Week Market and enjoy the relaxed time to visit with the vendors and farmers before grabbing breakfast or lunch and dinner fixings to go.”

The Grand Re-Opening of the Mid-Week Market on Wednesday, April 17th will feature a “Market to Table” Cooking Demonstration with Vincent Webb of NC Coop Extension.  Patrons may enjoy this free and interactive demo to learn more about cooking with nutritious and in-season local foods.  Recipes will be available for the featured dish, “Strawberry Quinoa Salad.”

Fresh Food Access & Food Security Programs at Mid-Week Market

With the re-opening of the Wednesday, Mid-Week Market on April 17th the Market’s Food Security Token Programs will resume distribution to Wednesday during Mid-Week Market through October.  Shoppers will be able to double SNAP/EBT benefits up to $15 during Mid-Week Markets. Greensboro Farmers Market, Inc. (GFM) is proud to accept SNAP/EBT during both Saturday and Wednesday Market and to offer the “Double SNAP Token Programduring the Wednesday Market. Funding for “Double SNAP” is secured by GFM, Inc. through local foundation support and individual donations from community members. (GFM) is also honored to continue in partnership with Guilford Community Care Network’s (GGCN) Orange Card Program to increase access to fresh and nutritious foods for those in need. Orange Card beneficiaries receive $10 in tokens during Mid-Week Market to shop the Market for fresh foods.  Market tokens may be used during Mid-Week (Wednesday 8 am- 12 pm) or Saturday (7 am- 12 pm) Markets. Fresh Food Access & Food Security Programs are of great importance to GFM as they diversify customer base and provide additional income streams for farmers.

The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville Street, is located at the corner of Lindsey Street and Yanceyville Street across from the War Memorial Stadium and operates year-round on Saturdays 7 am to 12 pm and seasonally on Wednesday, Mid-Week Market 8 am- 12 noon (April 17– October 30). The Market is an indoor facility with free admission, WiFi, and plenty of free parking as well as an ATM on site.
