Babycake Sweets owner Lisa LeBlanc sells a variety of baked goods including pound cake, cookies, blueberry walnut muffins, and chocolate brownies. Lisa explored several different career paths before baking full-time. After studying speech communications at UNC Greensboro and working in public relations, she switched her profession first to gemology and then to interior design. When Lisa’s first child began attending school, she brought in a pound cake to thank his teachers for their work. They loved the cake so much that they asked her if she ever considered selling it, which gave her the confidence to start selling it at the Market.

Lisa bakes all of her products from her kitchen in her own home on Fridays to ensure that her goods are fresh when they arrive on Saturdays. To add a personal touch, Lisa has named each of her products after someone she loves. From the “Andrew” pound cake to the “Benjamin” cookie, she always uses her business to display the deep connection she has with the people closest to her. What Lisa enjoys most about the Market is that it makes her feel like she’s part of an exceptionally friendly community. She especially appreciates getting to meet other women who sell baked goods, as they frequently give each other tips and advice in between customers.
