The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market (501 Yanceyville St.) welcomes Chef Reto’s Junior Chef Cooking Camps for the 6 weeks this summer, young chefs will have hands-on experience preparing fresh, local food. The Farmers Market is excited to announce this camp series scheduled, the first of many events, happening in the new Cooking Café at the Market. Beginning June 24th the camps run from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Market. Young chefs, age 11 to 14, will get to experience cooking and come closer to the food systems that support Greensboro and their local community.
The Café is currently under renovation with a new look and additional functionality. The new Café and Demonstration Kitchen will be unveiled next month. The newly renovated space will be available for rentals for cooking groups, chef presentations, and more. Reto’s Junior Chef Cooking Camps kick off on June 24t with the “Bonjour! French Class” focusing on cuisine native to and inspired from France. Additional camps include “Ciao! Italian”, “World Cuisine”, “Classic American”, and “Mediterranean.” Each camp will teach participants foundational kitchen skills such as baking, sautéing, knife skills, sanitation, organization, preparation, and more! Each week offers a new variety of dishes, skills, and activities throughout the class with a delicious ending event on Friday for students to showcase new skills learned.
Campers will get a true farm-to-table experience with fresh, local food that can be found in the Market. Additional fun and educational activities will introduce young chefs to local food producers and provide a unique experience for every camp with social time, arts, and delicious food.
